NOM and FOM Invest in FrisianBAR, corrosion-free concrete reinforcement

The Noordelijke Ontwikkelings Maatschappij (NOM) and the Friese Ontwikkelings Maatschappij (FOM) are investing in FrisianBAR, a brand-new company founded by Harry Fietje, managing Director of Autonational Composite Machinery.

NOM and FOM representatives with the FrisianBAR team, supporting the growth of corrosion‑free GFRP composite rebar.

FrisianBAR enters the European construction market with a sustainable alternative to traditional steel reinforcement with GFRP composite rebar.

With a fully automated production line established in IJlst, the company is going to supply high‑quality, certified composite reinforcement that significantly contributes to the sector’s sustainability goals.

Steel remains the standard for reinforcing concrete, but it is prone to corrosion, which can lead to structural degradation over time.

Composite rebar, however, is stronger, corrosion‑free, chemically resistant, and offers a guaranteed lifespan of at least 100 years. These advantages are driving rapid global market growth, particularly in India, the USA, and China. Europe is still emerging in this field, presenting major opportunities for FrisianBAR.

The production technology was developed by Autonational Composite Machinery, while FrisianBAR was founded to operate and advance the new production line independently.

NOM and FOM are jointly financing the investment, citing the company’s strong competitive position, contribution to the regional industry, and alignment with sustainability objectives.

Reducing CO₂ While Developing More Recyclable Composite Rebar Technologies.

Composite rebar also helps construction companies reduce CO₂ emissions due to lighter transport and more sustainable production. We focus on improving the recyclability of components such as mesh connectors and integrate recycled materials into our processes, strengthening the sustainability of Europe’s construction sector from Friesland outward.
